Not all fonts work the same! That is why finding free fonts for Cricut can be very difficult. In fact, finding paid fonts for Cricut can be difficult in itself! Even when you do find that perfect font you will need to know some basic steps to help your project idea become reality. Acrobat reader home page. Writing fonts for Cricut are so much more complicated, which makes it hard for us to use our Cricut pens to create lovely projects, like cards, for our loved ones with hand written text.
I have been researching this subject for some time with no real information out there to help find free writing fonts for Cricut. So I am going to share the things I have learned from others.
It would be nice if we could figure out how to make any free font a writing font for Cricut. But it isn't as easy as it sounds.
Why Do You Need Special Fonts for Writing?
To use pens with your Cricut machine, as of now, you need to change the setting to ‘draw' instead of ‘cut'. When you change the setting from cut to draw, Design Space looks at the vector lines.
On most fonts, even if they are just a ‘single cut' font, Cricut will draw the outline of the font. That looks very cool with some fonts and projects, but not for the handwritten look we are wanting for our project.
As you can see, there is a big difference between setting the same font on ‘cut' or ‘draw'. Remember, to use pens in Cricut, we have to set them on draw. But we don't want our font to look like that, outlined. That won't create pretty handwriting.
Finding Free Writing Fonts for Cricut
I have searched high and low for free writing fonts. The ones that are really skinny and have fewer nodes.
As you know, I am a huge fan of Dafont, so that is where I found all my free writing fonts for Cricut. If you like them, download them to Cricut because they may not be there when you go back…or at least not free.

Make Any Font A Writing Font for Cricut
For those that are a bit more adventurous, Ms. Makes has created a really good video on how to make any font a writing font for Cricut. She uses free software, Inkscape, which you will need to download. Try it, you might like it. It's all a bit over my head.
